Cardiff Bus is offering free travel to NHS staff across all its services as it aims to support those at the frontline in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
The operator is offering free journeys to all NHS staff, many of whom are travelling by bus to reach hospitals and patients, over the coming weeks.
In order to take advantage of the free travel, staff must present their NHS ID to the driver when boarding the bus.
This comes after Cardiff Bus this week modified its timetables in response to the latest preventative measures introduced by the Government, which banned all but non-essential travel.
The majority of its services will follow a Sunday timetable, except for those directly travelling to the city’s hospitals, which will run more frequently to offer additional support.
Services 1 and 2 city circular routes via Heath Hospital will follow a Saturday timetable, from Mondays through to Saturdays; while services 65/65A to Heath Hospital via Llanrumney and St Mellons and the H59 Heath Hospital’s Park & Ride service will follow their Monday to Friday timetable on weekdays.
Service 51 will run some morning journeys on weekdays to link Pentwyn to the Heath Hospital.
Additionally, service 95 will follow an adapted timetable supporting customers working at Llandough Hospital, and service 96A will run extra journeys during the morning.
Operations and Commercial Director Gareth Stevens said: “We at Cardiff Bus have watched our inspirational NHS staff in awe while this Coronavirus pandemic has been spreading.
“Many of those workers are continuing to utilise our services daily in order to reach hospitals and treat patients.
“In order to show our support and gratitude to them, we will be offering free travel to all NHS staff across all our services with immediate effect.
“We would just like to remind staff to show their NHS ID to the driver upon boarding.
“We at Cardiff Bus would like to say thank you to all NHS staff working selflessly across Cardiff and its surrounding areas, and we hope that this will support you over the coming weeks.”
Cardiff Bus’s customer service centres on Sloper Road and Westgate Street are closed, customers are reminded that tickets can be purchased on the app and timetable and route information is available on the app and website.
